WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- Clips from a new video that has been circulating online show horrifying images of dead bodies covered in sheets and blankets and lined up along the corridors in hospitals in China.
- The video, which looked like it was taken from inside the Red Cross Hospital in Wuhan, also showed distressing clips of a sick person writhing on the floor while hospital staff and personnel wearing masks walk around.
- Other clips also showed how dire the situation is in Wuhan as long lines of residents crowd the hospitals waiting for hours to seek medical attention.
As health officials continue to grapple with the deadly coronavirus outbreak, a new video that’s circulating on social media shows troubling clips of dead bodies lining hospital hallways in China. Storyful has verified the video on Friday.
Apparently shot from inside the Red Cross Hospital in Wuhan, the clip also showed a patient thrashing about on the floor while covered dead bodies lined the corridors of the hospital. Staffers are seen in the video walking around with masks on their faces. One clip also showed the hospital crowded with throngs of frantic patients wearing masks in a hospital corridor waiting for confirmation of they’re sick or not.
To address the insufficient medical resources in Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, authorities are rushing to construct a 1,000-bed hospital to treat more patients suffering from the virus. The new 270,000-square-foot facility is expected to be completed and put to use by Feb.3.
So far, more than two dozen have already died from the virus while a hundred others worldwide have been infected.
Following the outbreak, Wuhan, a city of more than 11 million residents, has been on lockdown in a bid to contain the virus, which is believed to have come from a seafood market that sold exotic live wildlife for human consumption.
