WHAT’S BEING CLAIMED:
- Following news of former Glee cast member Naya Rivera missing and even presumed dead, comments about a so-called “Glee curse” started circulating online.
- Fans of the show still remember Cory Monteith’s death back in July 2013, and Mark Salling’s suicide in January 2018.
- Now, Rivera has been presumed dead after a search yielded no results.
The show Glee has aired its final episode back in March 2015, but fans still remember and mourn Cory Monteith’s death two years prior.
Now, as former Glee cast member Naya Rivera has been declared missing and even presumed dead, comments about a so-called “Glee curse” started circulating online.
People pointed out that drama, scandal, tragedy, and misfortune has continued to plague the cast of the show.
The most memorable of which was Monteith’s death back in July 2013. The actor, who played star quarterback Finn Hudson, was found dead in his room at Vancouver’s Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel.
According to ABC News, Monteith’s death was attributed to a mix of heroin and alcohol. He had apparently checked himself into a rehab facility for substance abuse and was released just months before his death, PEOPLE reported.
In December 2015, Mark Salling, who played Noah “Puck” Puckerman, was arrested on charges of child porn possession and faced a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.
Salling reportedly had more than a thousand images of “child sexual exploitation” on his computer, law enforcement officials told TMZ. The images were reportedly of children who were “significantly younger” than 15- and 16-year-olds.
Two years later, in December 2017, Salling pleaded guilty to a federal offense of possessing child pornography. According to Deadline, he was set to serve four to seven years as part of a plea deal. He would then spend the next 20 years under supervision and will be registered as a sex offender.
In January 2018, weeks before he was scheduled to be sentenced, Salling was found dead of an apparent suicide.
The latest incident involves the missing case of Rivera, who played spunky cheerleader Santana Lopez.
Rivera was last seen renting a boat on California’s Lake Piru. Moments later, her 4-year-old son Josey was found alone on the boat with her mother nowhere to be found.
Her son said that her mother had gone for a swim, but since she hasn’t come back, officials believe that she has drowned.
Ventura County Sheriff’s Department officials told NBC Los Angeles, “This is considered to be a horrible accident.”
Rivera has now been presumed dead after a search did not yield results. County officials have shifted their focus from a search and rescue mission to a recovery mission.
