Trisha Yearwood shared her experience with COVID-19 during an appearance in The Kelly Clarkson Show.
The country star revealed that even after recovery, she still has long-lasting COVID-19 symptoms, specifically the loss of her sense of taste and smell.
Host Kelly Clarkson greeted her with a joke: “I have some beef officially. You are losing weight in COVID, I gained weight, I found it. What are you doing?”
“Spanx,” Yearwood responded with a laugh.
“And also I lost my taste and smell so food is kind of different right now,” she added. She shared that she first noticed the symptoms when she couldn’t taste the coffee her husband Garth Brooks made her “about five days in.”
She recalled asking her husband at the time, “I love you, but did you put coffee in here?”
Yearwood said that “it’s been about eight weeks” since then and she still hasn’t regained her senses completely.
“Now it’s all about texture,” she recounted. “I can tell if something’s spicy, that’s about it. I love to cook so now when I cook I just ask Garth, tell me if it needs more salt and pepper. It’s the weirdest thing.”
Yearwood contracted COVID-19 back in February after exposure to a team member who tested positive.
Brooks announced at the time, “Anyone who knows me knows my world begins and ends with Miss Yearwood, so she and I will ride through this together… She’s a fighter and she’s been doing everything right, so I know we’ll walk out the other side of this thing together.”
The singer then shared the good news of her recovery in early March.
Yearwood expressed her admiration for her husband, who never got sick himself despite taking the best care of her throughout her illness. She said that he also didn’t have any side effects after getting vaccinated.
She wrote on Facebook at the time of her recovery, “My incredible husband is literally Superman and never got covid — but still took all the precautions to keep everyone we know and love safe!”
