Jesse Lieberman wrote the piece for college newspaper. Per the written accounts, one student spotted the bookmark that bared the name of the porn site and called it out on live microphone during the online lecture. This made his classmates take notice of the bookmark and started taking screenshots for sharing on social media.

The incident was posted on TikTok, amassing 800,000 views hours after it was posted. The video has removed from the social media site, but it had already been downloaded for reposting. Ethan Hartz told newspaper reporter that his friends from other universities saw and shared the video online.

The professor addressed his business analytics class the next meeting, Lieberman confirms. “I don’t know how it happened,” he said. “I didn’t see it, I’m pretty sure everybody else did…My apologies to the class.”

The University of Miami removed the professor from the university webpage and transferred his teaching load to other professors, leaving some of the students unhappy considering the shift on how the course taught this late in the semester.

The publicationstarted discussions on campus and the university acknowledged that the incident was investigated, but made no further comments.

The University of Miami failed to comment in response to the incident. Professor John Peng Zhang also did not comment.

The student body have divided opinion about the incident. On Wednesday, students from the university launched an online petition for the professor, opposing his termination because of the bookmark. The petition had 49 signatures by the afternoon.

“People make mistakes, are sexual beings, and should not be fired when no true porn was shared,” the petition reads. “We no longer live in the 18th century and individuals are allowed to have a personal, sexual life. This was obviously a mistake.”

There are students, however, that are more concerned that the pornographic video is about college girls, not as much with the deed.

Samantha Hill, a university student, comments on the incident. “It was the fact he is a college professor and saved a video to his bookmarks describing college girls,” she says.

“It’s hard not to think he’s looking at you like that,” she added. “I wouldn’t turn my camera on…I don’t want him to look at me.”
